The Blue Mountains

First up… I have to say that I would definitely choose the Hiking Day Tour, I absolutely love a hike and its by far the best way see some amazing views, put the effort in and be rewarded.

I do understand that a hike is not for everyone though and thats why I have put together this guide for the different options available when taking a day tour to the Blue Mountains from Sydney.

Most tours include visiting the towns of Leura and Katoomba, as well as stops along the way at the famous lookouts. Beyond the scenic views and charming towns the various tours offer a different “main event” for the day and at Down Under Vacations, we’re dedicated to making sure your tour fits your personal travel interests. Here is our recommended selection of the available options:

Scenic skyway, part of Scenic World in Katoomba, Blue Mountains
Scenic World

Scenic World offers something for everyone and is top of the list on the Tourist Trail in the Blue Mountains, if you enjoy a ‘Theme Park’ type experience with rides, cafe & gift shop then choosing a tour that includes Scenic world is a must do. Definitely recommended if travelling with children. Make sure that your tour ticket includes the cost of the rides to avoid being charged more when you arrive.

Featherdale Wildlife Park

Featherdale Wildlife Park is a popular stop to stop en-route to the Blue Mountains, and is a great option for animal lovers and those travelling with children. Hand-feed kangaroos, cuddle a koala, and learn about conservation efforts for endangered species. With its relaxed, interactive environment, Featherdale provides a fun and educational experience for all ages, making it an ideal spot for families and nature enthusiasts alike.

Hike the World Heritage

Starting at Evans Lookout you’ll receive your lunch pack and instructions for your unforgettable hike. This stunning trail takes you across valleys and ridges, offering breathtaking views of the Grose Valley, often called Australia’s Grand Canyon. The hike concludes at Govetts Leap, one of Australia’s most famous lookouts, where you’ll be awed by the magnificent 180m waterfall and sweeping views down the valley into the pristine Grose Wilderness.

Deluxe Day Tour

This luxury tour of the Blue Mountains offers the perfect blend of scenic beauty and gourmet indulgence. Begin with a visit to Calmsley Hill Farm before exploring the stunning local views. Enjoy a 2-course lunch at the iconic Hydro Majestic Hotel and then finish your tour with a peaceful stroll through the Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens. With exclusive experiences and exceptional service, this tour showcases the best of the Blue Mountains in style.

Train & Bus

Independent travellers or groups who prefer to travel at their own pace can hop aboard the train from Sydney to Katoomba. Once you arrive you can explore the area on the hop on hop off Big Bus which will take you on a guided tour around the key highlights of the region. From stunning lookouts like Echo Point and the Three Sisters to iconic sites like Scenic World and Leura Village, the Big Bus offers a relaxed and informative way to explore the best of the Blue Mountains, all while enjoying panoramic views from the comfort of your seat.
